Landscapes in Afton, VA
20 10 2012One of the great advantages to living in Afton, VA is the ability to take great landscape shots right from my back porch. The weather was beautiful and the sky was as clear as I’ve ever seen it. The Blue Ridge Mountains never disappoint as a willing subject for my photos.

Afton, Va
13 10 2012Afton, VA Afton is located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains 20 miles west of Charlottesville. I recently learned that Afton is part of the Rockfish Valley Gap, which is a wind gap which exists where a watery once flowed but now is dry, and that wind gaps are often used as routes for roads and railroads through mountain ranges. It doesn’t surprise me at all that we live in a wind gap as the wind that whips down to where our house sits is powerful and sometimes destructive. We typically have to keep all of our lawn furniture and the grill tied down to the back deck because of the wind.
The Crozette Gazette did a story about Old Afton Village a couple of years ago and they published pictures from the turn of the century when the Afton Chapel was first built and the Afton Depot exsited with a passenger walkway. Below is a picture of the chapel published in the Gazette, followed by a couple of pictures that I recently took of the Chapel.
